The book The European press at war (1939-1945). Clandestines, collaborationists and double agents (Ediciones Alfar, 2024), by Antonio Checa Godoy, is probably the most complete contribution to the role of the press during World War II. Obviously, there are many studies published on this subject, but the merit of Checa's text is its desire to cover in its study practically all the territory occupied or controlled by the Third Reich in such a disastrous conflict, more than 30 countries in continental Europe, and this makes it especially valuable. It is a book that allows for many readings and possible readers, as it is of interest to thoughtful university researchers, who will find a huge amount of data on newspapers and journalists of the moment well organized, but it also gains informative value for the general public, who can better understand with absolute rigor and detail such a dramatic episode in human history.
