Nº 14 – 2025 | Second stage Monographic: “Advances, Risks and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence”
Focus
Cuadernos del Audiovisual | CAA opens its call for papers for issue 14 of its second stage in research journal format with the theme of “Advances, Risks and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence”.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence, the digital transformation it entails and the potential risks it entails have once again highlighted the importance of public authorities exercising their powers to protect the fundamental rights of citizens in the digital environment, guaranteeing their privacy and security. The right to human dignity, respect for private and family life, the protection of personal data, the protection of minors and the free development of their personality, non-discrimination and equality between men and women and the right to freedom of expression, among others, justify the imposition of restrictions on the use and marketing of these new systems. There is no doubt about the benefits of this new technology, but measures must be established to ensure that artificial intelligence systems are safe.
The CAA as the independent audiovisual authority responsible for ensuring respect for the rights, freedoms and constitutional and statutory values in the audiovisual media in Andalusia, as well as compliance with current regulations on audiovisual and advertising, undertook a line of work to study the risks involved in the use of this new technology in the audiovisual field. The objective is to urge the implementation of the necessary measures to safeguard the rights of minors, young people, senior citizens, people with disabilities, immigrants and other groups in need of greater protection, with regard to the content of programming and advertising in the media.
One of the main concerns of the CAA has been the increase in the consumption of audiovisual content of a sexual nature by minors. This access has been aggravated by the existence of AI applications generating hyper-realistic fake pornographic content circulating on the networks that can be freely accessed by minors. The specific use of these applications, websites or programs that generate deepnudes, is mainly illegal since, in almost all cases, the images are used without the authorization or consent of the persons stripped. The design of an artificial intelligence tool cannot be an instrument for the commission of crimes and, if such a risk exists, the maximum guarantees must be deployed in the process of contracting and using it.
The CAA is also working in other areas related to AI. The main conclusions drawn from the various works carried out in four major areas, taking into account the functions and powers of a body such as the CAA: gender equality, right to honor and privacy, protection of minors and disinformation. Precisely these areas are the focus of the call for articles in issue 15 of the CAA's Cuadernos del Audiovisual (Audiovisual Notebooks).
